"NESA's Research Department has brought significant recognition to the AOM profession through its NIH-funded collaborations with Harvard's Osher Institute. The ongoing, top-quality projects being designed here are helping to redefine acupuncture research."

EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS
NESA has valuable educational partnerships with premier institutions in the Boston area, providing students with unique learning experiences.
Tufts University School of Medicine
NESA has been affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) since 1990, when several of its faculty began teaching Western biomedicine courses here.
In 2000, the National Institutes of Health awarded TUSM funding for the Tufts Program in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. NESA played a significant role in all aspects of this five-year program. It worked to improve critical thinking skills of allopathic medical students, particularly as related to complementary and alternative medical therapies, and to integrate the benefits of these services into their future practices.
In January 2006, NESA and Tufts University School of Medicine launched a ground-breaking joint venture. Students in the Pain Management track at NESA can simultaneously enroll in the Master of Science in Pain, Research, Education and Policy (PREP) program at Tufts. It is the first and only multidisciplinary post-graduate pain management program in the country, and sets the standard for pain education. Students who successfully complete the course requirements of both will receive master's degrees from Tufts and NESA. Students who prefer to earn a certificate from Tufts instead of a degree have that option as well.
Harvard Medical School
Harvard Medical School's Osher Research Center and other Harvard affiliates such as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have collaborated with NESA on a number of research studies.
Harvard-Yenching Library
Harvard's Yenching Library is the third largest of the campus' libraries and hosts one of the largest East Asian collections in the world. In addition to the original collection of Chinese and Japanese acupuncture texts, the library has expanded to include Tibetan, Mongolian, Korean, Vietnamese and Manchu volumes as well as periodicals, newspapers, journals, reels of microfilm, and microfiche. In April of 2002, the New England School of Acupuncture and Harvard's Yenching Library signed a collaborative agreement which allows NESA students and faculty access to the library with on-site reading privileges.
Medical Facilities
NESA interns have the opportunity to work in satellite clinics at hospitals and community health settings throughout the greater Boston area. This enables NESA interns to gain exposure to and experience in diverse patient populations and medical conditions.
