NESA At A Glance

  • The Master of Acupuncture (MAc) program typically takes 33 months; the Master of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (MAOM) usually takes 36 months.
  • Incoming classes of 60-75 enter in the fall and take classes throughout the year (NESA runs on a trimester calendar).
  • All students must have at least a bachelor's degree.
  • Students range in age from early twenties to mid sixties and represent a wide range of backgrounds.
  • The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education authorizes NESA's degree-granting authority.
  • NESA's program meets the requirements for licensure in Massachusetts and most other states; MAOM graduates are eligible to sit for the California Licensing Exam.
  • Class size ranges from 10-50 students (for lecture-style courses); practical courses are staffed with faculty and teaching assistants, with no more than 8 students assigned to a given teaching assistant.
  • Students graduating the MAc program accrue over 750 hours of clinical experience; MAOM students accrue over 900 hours of clinical experience.
  • NESA has over sixty sites where students can complete assistantship hours. Unlisted sites can apply for approval.
  • Continuing education seminars are scheduled throughout the year, with many offerings complementing the academic program.
  • NESA is easily accessible via major highways (including the Mass Pike/I-90 and Rt 128/I-95) and by public transportation lines. There is free parking provided for students and faculty.
