Kiiko Matsumoto Teaching in March

World-renowned teacher Kiiko Matsumoto will be offering "Identifying and Cleaning Abdominal and Back Reflexes with the Palpation and Treatment Style of Master Nagamo" on Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. The price, which includes lunch, is $295 for registration before February 25 and $325 after. Attendees earn 14 CAEs.

Course Outline
This weekend will consist of a combination of lecture and observation. Kiiko will explain her style of abdominal diagnosis using examples of cases commonly seen in clinic such as structural problems, hormone related issues and digestive disorders. She will briefly discuss the pulse and the importance of Stomach Qi, as recorded in the Ling Shu, indications of the main complaint and abdominal palpation, as well as palpation of the ASIS, the inguinal ligament, Dai Mai and the back.
Lecture Portion of the Weekend
- Identifying abdominal reflex areas of the heart, lung, kidney, spleen, stomach and liver and their relationship to the Zang Fu.
- Abdominal diagnosis according to the five elements and Western medicine.
- Relationship of the main complaint and the reflex areas of the abdomen, the fire points, Spleen 20, piriformis, scalenes and the back.
- Clearing pressure pain on the abdomen, ASIS, inguinal ligament, Dai Mai, piriformis and the back using acupuncture points which release them.
Observation Portion of the weekend
Treating the body:
Step 1: Feeling the pulse and treating Stomach Qi.
Step 2: Palpating and treating the abdomen and related structures, fire points, spleen 20 and scalenes.
Step 3: Palpating and treating the back, huatojiaji points and piriformis.

Kiiko Matsumoto, LicAc is internationally known for her scholarly work on acupuncture and the interpretation of Chinese classic texts. She has published four fundamental texts in English and many articles as well as video productions in Japanese. Kiiko received her honorary Master of Pedagogy degree from Tri-State College of Acupuncture, in honor of her enormous contribution to the College's educational programs. Ms. Matsumoto is known for her ability to integrate the work of very important Japanese Masters such as Master Nagano, Master Kawai, and Dr. Manaka with her knowledge from the classic Chinese texts and her own clinical findings, creating a coherent, clinically effective style. Ms. Matsumoto holds two very busy practices in Newton and Natick, Massachusetts, and has taught extensively both in the U.S. and abroad. She is also the co-director of the clinical acupuncture course for physicians at Harvard Medical School, Department of Continuing Education and Beth Israel Hospital.
